It was an ice storm that helped put CheckSammy on the map.
Houston-based Waste Management faced challenges as frosty, treacherous conditions shut down regular logistics routes for heavy front-end loaders, and CheckSammy, which specializes in on-demand waste and junk removal, was able to step in.
We were mapping things out on Excel, working from spreadsheets on the ground, and we went from two to three jobs a day to well north of 100,” said Sam Scoten, CEO of the Addison-based company.
CheckSammy started in 2018 to address a hypersupply of post-consumer goods left at apartment complexes primarily that could be recycled, such as electronics, clothing and plastics. When the company began to hear from customers about a growing need to address removal of bulk items, like furniture, and other illegal dumping, it shut down operations, sold its trucks and pivoted.
